Welcome to the webpage of the Norwegian Medical Students` Association (NMSA)
"We see a strong healthcare system with well-qualified and responsible healthcare professionals and access to medicines as necessary parts of the human right to live a dignified life in good health. NMSA`s overall mission is to sustain this universal fact."
Foreginer seeking to work as a doctor in Norway?
NMSA is the student body of the Norwegian Medical Association (NMA). It was created the 1st of January 2009 when the former medical student body of the NMA merged with former IFMSA-Norway. NMSA is therefore an organization with roots in both NMA and IFMSA (the International Federation of Medical Students Associations).
Our work is divided into the following three standing committees
- Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME)
- Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE)
- A standing committee on project development composed by joining the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP) and the Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH)
We work with national issues on how to improve the residential clinical training of graduated medical students and various aspects of our medical education. We also want to put the spotlight on national health issues which not always are at the centre of media attention.
As we are a part of the IFMSA, we want to stay true to the federation`s mission statement we accept by being members:
"Our mission is to offer future physicians a comprehensive introduction to global health issues. Through our programming and opportunities, we develop culturally sensitive students of medicine, intent on influencing the transnational inequalities that shape the health of our planet"
We are aware of the tremendous challenges that lie ahead in the field of global health. We believe that doctors of tomorrow should have knowledge about health issues which exists outside our geographic borders, and thus be able to respond to and influence these inqequalities. NMSA will take a more active involvement towards international health and will strive to become a serious voice in this debate. This will be visible as we develop different projects and campaigns related to global health.
